January and February are quiet months in the restaurant business but the entrepreneurial owners of Baguette at Ascot, Marilyn and Francis Domenech have their own solution – a Mediterranean platter dinner menu with three courses for $39.
The entree, main course and dessert are all served on large platters and you help yourselves, just like the French do when entertaining. It would be great with a group of friends.
Baguette has been around for years, always serving good food with good service. The recently revamped décor is pleasing and there’s a bar area at the front for a casual drink before you start the serious business of eating.
Each week, up until 25 February, there’s a different Mediterranean cuisine Monday to Thursday night.
French: weeks commencing 5 & 25 Jan and 15 Feb
* Duck and pork terrine, cornichons, toast
* Crusted loin of veal, French peas
* Pear and almond tarte, sauce anglaise (custard)
Spanish/Catalan: 11 January and 1 & 22 February
* Tortilla with sausage and beans
* Chicken with pimento and ratatouille
* Crema Catalana
Moroccan: weeks commencing 18 Jan and 8 Feb
* Meatballs in spicy tomato and egg sauce
* Lamb couscous, preserved lemon, quince and ras el hanout
* Pastilla (pastry) of figs, dates, almonds with rose water ice cream
