There is such a thing as a free lunch - Wellington on a Plate, New Zealand

There is such a thing as a free lunch...for Australian travellers!

Positively Wellington Tousim have decided to hook any Australians who visit Wellington during the Visa Wellington On a Plate 2010 festival with a free lunch. And we're not talking a crusty sandwich or a lukewarm pie. We're talking a classy two course meal matched with a glass of wine from one of our neighbouring wine regions, along with an eye opening brew freshly roasted in New Zealand's coffee capital.

All Australians have to do is show their Australian passport and flight e-ticket that shows they’ve come during festival time (August 14-29) at the Wellington i-SITE Visitor Centre in central Wellington. Additional coffee vouchers may be gifted to those with particularly embarrassing passport photos at staff discretion!

According to their research, Australians don’t know a heck of a lot about Wellington, so here's an update - Wellington restaurants have taken home New Zealand's top dining accolades for four of the past five years. With three new food markets having opened/expanded in the past year, their compact and cosmopolitan capital of cool is well and truly New Zealand's one stop foodie shop.

Wellington is nestled between two of New Zealand's most acclaimed wine regions. Wairarapa, just one hour north of Wellington, is best known for it rich European-style pinot noir. There are 25 boutique vineyards all within walking distance of the village of Martinborough; no paper scissors rock to decide who drives required – just stay the night.

Just south of Wellington is a place called Marlborough. The name might ring a bell with sauvignon blanc fans; New Zealand's largest wine producing region is acclaimed as one of the world's leading providers of the stuff.

Visa Wellington On a Plate features 92 events and 88 cafes/restaurants are involved in DINE Wellington.
