Carla at Vanilla Pod has launched cake pops for Easter in what she believes is a first for Brisbane. These are hugely popular in America and tipped to overtake cupcakes. Have you seen them elsewhere?
Cake pops are basically little smushed balls of cake and icing You bake a cake, let it cool, tear it into fine crumbs, stir in something to hold it all together, and roll it in balls. Here's how to make them - http://video.about.com/kidsparties/How-to-Make-Cake-Pops.htm
While these are very cute little treats I still think cupcakes have the edge, though cake pops are an excellent choice for children's parties.
Carla's cake pops are delicious bite-sized balls of moist cake handmade and rolled are double dipped into a bath of white chocolate, decorated and served on a lollipop stick. Their Easter range includes gluten free chicks, vanilla bunny ears and chocolate eggs. ($6.95 each or $49 for a set of five packaged in a quaint handmade timber Easter basket).
There's also special Easter cupcakes and a 'hot cross' cupcake. ($4.95 or $25 box of 6)
