Breakfast at Dandelion and Driftwood

There's something about starting the weekend with a leisurely breakfast that someone else has cooked.

Makes my heart sing just thinking about it.

And when that breakfast includes a kick ass coffee life is oh-so sweet.

So it's hard to go past the combo offered by Dandelion and Driftwood in Gerler Road, Hamilton. Here the food credo is 'simple food done exceptionally well' and they do.

Owners Peter Wolff and Penny Lowe are passionate about food and coffee. There's a lot of thought behind their offering and it works - just try and get a table mid morning and you'll see what I mean.

We arrived during a lull in the 'traffic' and enjoyed a baked beans with smoky bacon combo and K2's fave, avocado on toast.  Filling and delicious flavours with good quality produce.

Even though it's autumn in Brisbane, it got a little hot sitting out the front in the sun and we were lucky to move to a table in their rear courtyard which I didn't know existed.  It's another world out the back and Peter's domain - this is where he threatens to demonstrate his air guitar prowess - yes, true!  I am waiting on this one. :)

There was time to work our way through the coffee menu with a little explanation from Peter adding interest and knowledge to the experience.

The finale was a peanut butter whoopie cake made by the delightful Judy C, a real treat best served between two.

Bottom line: a place for coffee and tea lovers - recommended.
