Top 10 turkey tips - Eat Xmas

Cooking the Christmas turkey has to be one of the most stressful experiences of the year.

There's high expectations from plenty of family members, who usually don't hold back when it comes to comments, and boiling hot Xmas weather combined with a tricky job that only gets practised once a year.

Eat Xmas - Food tips for Christmas Day

Your favourite foodies share their top tips for a stress free Christmas Day.

Simon Johnson
Keep it simple, let the ingredients speak for themselves. Christmas is a time to celebrate family, good friends and great food. An antipasto platter can be prepared ahead to keep guests nibbling while you do a few last minute things in the kitchen. Keep lunch simple – great seafood is perfect for a hot Australian summer or a cold leg ham with a selection of condiments and a salad of greens.

Maggie Beer
Enjoy a glass or two of icy cold Sparkling Ruby Cabernet whilst preparing lunch – always good to get celebrations underway. Try to plan your menu well ahead of time and create platters to share. Involve family and guests in preparing the meal as this time of year is all about bringing loved ones together and nothing is more important than family, friends and food. Maggie Beer Absolute Essentials – the perfect addition to your kitchen or a great present this Christmas.

Pete Evans
My Christmas Day ritual is to get up early and go surfing, usually with my brother Dave. Chrissy Day is one of the most uncrowded times in the surf as everyone is at home opening their presents. Because of the early morning escape and the fact that I am always blessed with the cooking honours for the day (slave in other words) I like to make it all as simple and indulgent as possible. Complete the difficult tasks the day before so you can enjoy Christmas day and not be a captive in the kitchen.

Eat Xmas - Where to find the best Christmas pud

My grandmother always kept a small vegemite jar of silver sixpences to bake into the plum pudding to give luck to those who found one in their serve.

My father would carefully examine his serving each year to see if it looked really baked in or was just stuck in when the pudding was sliced for effect, but it never stopped him from enjoying the it.
