Flamingo, Fortitude Valley

When it comes to quirky decor, Flamingo hits all the buttons, but it's the food as much as the ambience that will make you return.

We ventured out on a Sunday morning and found the laneway buzzing with the Winn Lane markets (10am - 4pm).  After brekkie, V Diddy bought a little black lace number that's perfect for work for just $40 from one of the stalls.  She was lusting after earrings as well and has vowed to return.

Back to the food - The menu is simple and runs all day with plenty of brekkie items for a great all day breakfast.

V Diddy was after hangover food which in her case was pancakes.  No pancakes on the menu - but a homemade sausage roll with tomato sauce caught her eye.  It was a giant sized sausage roll ($8) and expertly filled the nawing hole in her stomach.

I went for the muffin of the day ($4) which was orange and blueberry. It was a knock out - crispy on top, great orange flavour, moist and loaded with blueberries inside.

The coffee is Genovese and was expertly prepared -  a delight to drink.

The menu includes other tempters with plenty of food like toasties, club sandwiches and toppings on rye.

What to try next time? I'm tempted by the extensive drinks menu which includes a Pink Flamingo (watermelon and strawberry) drink, a Nana Crystal (pear, apple, mint) or Mrs Palmer and Her Five Daughters (banana, pine, coconut cream, LSA, honey & ice).

If you're not within walking distance of Flamingo you can try for street parking but be prepared to stalk and hunt.  On Sunday there was lots of parking outside businesses that were shut but they have those ugly 'we tow anytime signs'.  I really don't see the need for those on a Sunday - just revenue raising and not community friendly at all. Share the love people!

Bottom line:
Great quirky spot to stop for a simple feed with excellent coffee and reasonable prices.
