The Chelsea, The Barracks

I've been cooking up a frenzy at home recently and have decided Wednesday is going to be my night off!

K2 looked a little startled when I put a recipe for Honey-Roasted chicken, chickpea and carrot salad, courtesy of Donna Hay, in front of him and suggested he cook. What's wrong with my famous hamburgers was his response?
Taking us out seemed to be his best solution to my suggestion so we jumped in the car heading from Bardon in to the city to see which restaurants would cry out to us to stop and eat.

Turns out getting a park was the bigger problem and that's why we ended up at the Barracks where there is always plenty of parking unless there is something on at Lang Park/Suncorp Stadium.
The night was mild so we took a seat in The Chelsea's pretty outdoor area with a gas heater close by in case it cooled down.
I ordered Slow cooked chermoula rubbed pork belly, roast carrot and cumin puree, pistachio tabouli and yoghurt.  It hit all my buttons and I finished every mouthful, temped to lick the plate as well. K2's Hand made pappadelle, beef cheek ragu, braised peppers and buffalo reggiano was equally well received.

We also were tempted by Poached pear crepes, caramel sauce, pecans and double vanilla ice cream and the Lindt dark chocolate cake with raspberry cream, but having both come from the gym that night decided to pass on more calories.

The Chelsea offers a pre-movie dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, where all main meals ordered before 6.30pm include a glass of one of the house wines, or a tea or coffee. I'll be getting there a little earlier next time!

Unfortunately you won't be able to try these dishes as the menu changes today so check on line to see what's now on offer.

Bottom line: Good food which exceeded my expectations.
