Outer Space, Fortitude Valley

Unless you work or live close, Outer Space is the sort of coffee shop you might never discover, and that would be a shame.

Set in the grounds of an old church outside a business called Inner Space, appropriately named Outer Space is indeed mostly outdoor space.  The coffee shop is set around a beautiful tree and leafy courtyard with a zen Japanese feel.

Colourful canvas awnings protect from sun over head and will probably slide back in winter to flood the courtyard with sun.  The awnings would probably not offer too much rain protection so it's great that the cafe has some rain protected under cover area as well.

As the kitchen facilities are minimal, the brother and sister team who run the show here buy much of their offerings in.  That said they are buying good quality stuff with Levian as one of their suppliers.

The coffee is Toby Estate and mine was very drinkable. The muffin was awesome.

Despite it's close city location, Brookes Street is surprisingly quiet and there's even street parking available occassionaly.  Such a surprise after emerging from busy Emporium where car park stalking has turned into an art form.

Watch this space because there are plans afoot to expand the trading hours and include early evening dining with barbecue offerings.  Could be a great way to dine.
