Yet another reason to want to call yourself a Brisbane New Farm/Valley/Newstead local has appeared with the opening of Chester Street Bakery & Bar on August 9.
This busy inner city location has seen a few incarnations over the past couple of years. You might have known it as Spanakopita or Chester Street Kitchen. Now Damien Griffiths has morphed Chester Street Kitchen into a bakery and bar with sour dough bread from the wood fired oven in the morning and a kitchen pumping out easy to eat food through the evening.

Look for the white picket fence as you walk/drive down Chester Street. |

Here's something interesting - Also open for breakfast, Chester Street is offering filled doughnuts on the menu. Damien is not prepared to call them cronuts but keep an eye on the board. If anyone can bring cronuts to Brisbane I'm betting on Damien Griffiths.
This week they are running test kitchens and a lucky few get to try
out the food and venue while the staff fine tune everything - not that
there seems to be much to fine tune. The menu is well priced and ranges from light to filling bar food into main plates with a larger meat content and desserts with Jocelyn Hancock's back to the best basics style done very well.
There's a full bar on the left hand side of the cafe and top barman Perryn Collier is getting things running over the next few weeks.
Along with a few hungry peeps, I did my best to sample the menu and do you proud.
Here's the result -
