Albion Mill Farmers Market - I went and I saw...

It seems Brisbane can't get enough of farmer's markets judging by the keen crowds checking out the new Jan Powers Farmers Market at the Albion Mill development site, Albion.

They were grabbing their fill of flowers, hot smoked salmon, fresh raspberries and strawberries, and snacking on everything from bratwurst, dumplings and langos to brownies, waffles and cupcakes.

Conveniently located right next to the Albion train station, just behind the Albion Hotel on Hudson Road, there's plenty of easy parking close by.  Parking is often an issue at markets and the train station's park 'n ride carpark is a huge bonus.

My highlights were starting the day with a mojito (lime and mint iced tea) with a smoked salmon langos for breakfast.  I brought home fragrant stocks, olive bread, brownies and salted caramel cupcake.

A cup of hand-pressed wax-free, spray-free apple juice from Jake Strow's  wooden barrel press imported from America was another treat.

My herb garden is also looking flush with three new types of herbs bought in pots for just $2 each - much cheaper and better quality than the ones on sale in Woolworths.

The original market blurb included information on a sit down cafe and I have to say this, or even more seating, would be a great addition.  There's plenty of food and drink available for immediate consumption but now where much to eat it. The bare dirt location also could use a little love.  Knowing Jan Powers, these little teething problems will soon be taken in hand and I predict a great future for these markets. The Albion Mill development is planned in three stages so the market site should be available for at least the next five years.

It's a monthly market at this stage and runs from 7.30am to 2pm but my best tip is always to get there early.

Here's what I saw -

Bottom line - real farmers selling their wares direct to the public
Best tip - take a big bag and a cooler bag in the car for all your purchases.
