New menu at Alfred&Constance stars fresh and local

Fresh regional produce is the star of Alfred & Constance’s new summer menu with local tiger prawns, lemon, mint, cucumber, radish and passionfruit taking a staring roll.

Patron Chef Jocelyn Hancock, a strong advocate of paddock-to-plate eating, says there’s lots of strong, clean, simple flavours to enjoy.

Crispy calamari with sweet paprika mayo

Slow roasted pork belly with wilted spinach, crushed potato and green olives.

Josper grilled duck breast with watermelon, persian feta, mint and toasted cashews

Quinoa salad

The A&C pie

House cured salmon

Try the tiger prawns (top photo) and grass-fed rib on the bone grilled on the Josper Grill, which helps retain moisture and succulence, giving a charred crust and also retaining the lovely soft texture you get from a cut of good quality ingredients. Look out also for the duck breast with watermelon, Persian feta and toasted cashews.

Old A&C faves, including the pork roll, burgers and chorizo Scotch egg, are still on the menu, along with some new grilled meats and fresh summer vegetables and salads.  I did notice the Scotch egg chorizo was not as spicy this time and hope that was just a one-off.

Those with a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed with desserts like soft-centered meringue with lashings of lemon curd and lots of fresh Queensland passionfruit.

However, when it comes to dessert I can’t go past Jocelyn’s Banoffee pie, which is the best I’ve tasted in Brisbane.

Enjoy it all summer on the deck in the Vanguard Beer Garden.
