An Italian Christmas at L'angolo, Hamilton, Brisbane

If taking the family to Italy for Christmas doesn't quite fit the budget, how about an authentic Italian Christmas lunch at L'angolo, new at Hamilton.

Brought to you by the same two couples who established Colle Rosso at Red Hill, David Ruggiero, Laura Petricelli, Lisa Del Vecchio and Marco Mureddu, have drawn from their shared Italian heritage to create Christmas menu.

Their set four course Christmas lunch includes some of the popular items from their menu with a festive twist.

A glass of very fruity sangria is the perfect way to start.

Starters include a rustic focaccia which I particularly enjoyed.  The only problem with this pizza style bread is that you will want to eat it all up and that doesn't leave much room for the feast that follows.  The caprese salad with buffalo fior di latte, prosciutto and olives is a light and refreshing alternative salad.

Entrees include homemade saffron fettuccine with roasted quail, pancetta and peas in a sweet sauce or ravioli filled with barramundi and crab in a light tomato sauce.

For the main the choice rests between braised beef cheer or grilled swordfish.

Of course Italians really love dessert and the homemade profiteroles on the Christmas menu are a delight as is the Italian dark chocolate and almond cake.

This is all too much for small fry so children under 12 have their own menu with a choice of the dark chocolate and almond cake or gelati for dessert.

What are your plans for Christmas lunch?  Does Italian sound good to you too?

Best tip:  My fave was the quail

Bottom line: Substantial portions make this a great value Christmas lunch at $59 per person.
