Capulet, Fortitude Valley – Brisbane’s latest night venue

What encapsulates romance for you? Is it girls in bikinis? Is it a patron ice sculpture that offers shots? Or is it just a nice night out with a lovely lady?

Ed+bK bar reporter Xander Stone falls in love.

I tried all these things at the launch of Capulet last week and I got a little bit caught in the romance that is Brisbane’s latest high end cocktail bar, Capulet.

We walk through on the red carpet, past an elegantly presented, new BMW that we could win for the weekend, into this very recently renovated venue that's hard to recognise from its previous incarnation, Alloneword.

Having spent a couple of late nights at Alloneword, I was very impressed with the renovation that was done in just 11 days to produce a stunning new venue which aims to fill a gap in Brisbane’s bar scene.

To quote one of the owners, Liam Mulhall - “Imagine watching a fashion show with a cocktail in hand, in a trendy but comfortable atmosphere’ – we think Brisbane will fall in love with the venue.” And that is what I did.

With a glass of champagne in hand, we were treated to a fashion show featuring Gypsea swimwear. I also enjoyed this while drinking a Verona's Kiss, which includes Aperol, Bombay Sapphire and rosewater with 24ct gold dust and real rose petals - it went down well with the bikini-clad girls. A lot of effort was put in to continuing the Romeo and Juliet theme throughout the whole venue, from the cocktail list sporting creations such as the Juliet, the Romeo or Tybalt: The Prince of Cats, to quotes from the play scrawled across walls and the motto “Get caught in the romance”. All of this even inspired me to reread the play!

Featuring secluded booth areas that are available for reservation and two separate bar areas, Capulet can cater to a lot of different needs. I would recommend it for a delightful evening cocktail and feel free to dress up to the nines.

At the moment they are only open Thursday to Sunday, but ladies get free gifts on Saturdays from 9-10pm which doesn’t sound too bad to me.

Bottom line: Romance is alive and well in Brisbane
Best tip: Great place to impress a date
