Eating on the go - 'Gourmet Touring Around Australia'

Where to stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner is the traveller’s dilemma.

And, if you are unlikely to be satisfied by soggy sandwiches, dried out cake or tough cuts of meat, it helps to be in the know.

But how do you know where to stop when you hit a new town? Is that side road worth exploring or is it better to turn left?

The second edition of Gourmet Touring Around Australia, for which I contributed the Queensland section, is your new food travelling bible.

Whether it's a country day trip, a weekend getaway or the road trip of a lifetime, this book has got you covered.

It was a joy to write.  I left my stomach do the walking and compiled a dream list of foodie destinations. There’s everything from fabulous food festivals to roadside stalls, and cafes to five star restaurants.  There’s even a handy where to stay section.

The only thing you won't find in this book is where to eat in the city, because this is a guide for the regions.

The areas covered are Gold Coast and Hinterland, Scenic Rim,Granite a Belt, Sunshine Coast, and Tropical North.

Designed to fit in your glove box, this book is a must-take item for your next gourmet break.

My favourite gourmet road trips in Queensland are the stretch from just before Stanthorpe to Ballandean in the Granite Belt, and in North Queensland, Cairns to Daintree and onto Atherton and Mareeba.
