It used to be the old Rainworth general store; now it's Neighbourhood Coffee Roasters serving up house-roasted coffee and innovative dishes that challenge traditional boring breakfast and standard lunch perceptions.
Alex Ridgway purchased the property in 2013 with a shop front and living quarters at the rear.
He renovated the tired 1960s fit out into coffee shop premises with an innovative interior that includes tiered seating from recycled materials and plenty of spaces to enjoy a quiet coffee.
It's a very Queensland feel with plenty of old vj boards and names locals will remember from the past such as Tristrams and Peter's ice cream. The shop had been vacant for 40 years until Alex took it over.
Those of you who remember the French restaurant Rags, may have crossed paths with Alex as a child. He was often on the floor of the family restaurant and worked at the bar until he moved to New Farm Deli in the early 1990s.
On the lunch menu, you'll find gems such as summer cawslaw, a combo of dates, raisins, seeds and almond combined with a refreshing herb and lemon zest mayo. There's also a quesadilla like you've never seen before with avocado, roasted garlic, basil and cheese and a green tea soba noodle salad which includes red mizuma, sesame, peanuts, coriander and miso.
Keeping it local, when the barista's mum has a bumper crop of cucumbers they pickle them and turn them into Japanese Style Cheese on Toast.
They call it a toasted sandwich, but the house-baked Gooralie wood smoked ham (free range pork from a mixed farming property near Goodiwindi) with a fig glaze and cheese on dark rye spoke much louder than that. (Pictured at the top).
Coming in second on the list was the kimchi, pork floss and cheddar toasted sandwich.
You can't have a shorter paddock to plate journey than straight from the back garden. They are planting by the moon so it will be interesting to see how the crop grows.
