If you love chocolate, you will have already heard about Max Brenner, suckao, hug mugs, max-wiches and tutti-fruitti waffles.
Don't know what language I am speaking?
If you were a small child and your parents were taking you out for a special sweet treat, Max Brenner could well be at the top of the list. It's a more food focused type of chocolate experience, but Max certainly offers a great chocolate fix. Judging by the queues I have seen outside the South Bank Max Brenner, word has got around, which makes the Portside store a little more accessible for those who don't like to wait.
It's a large store with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. The menu is nearly all chocolate themed with tempters like choc-nut fudge brownies, snow topped chocolate mountain cupcakes and toffee apple crepes drizzled with melted chocolate.
I chose a tutti-fruitti waffle which came with ice cream fresh strawberries and bananas. The waffle had little chunks of praline in it which added an unexpected pleasant crunch to the smooth chocolate, bananas and strawberries. It was a satisfying dessert treat.
We all indulged in a hot chocolate drink - it seemed silly not to! My Mexican Spicy Chocolate was pleasantly spicy with just a touch of chilli.K2 went for Coconut Chocolate which was rich and coco-nutty.
VDiddy, who has indulged at other Max Brenner stores, when for the Italian Thick Chocolate which was a very rich chocolate flavour. She couldn't finish it all.
Hot chocolate is served in a hug mug and you sort of pour the chocolate into your mouth while hugging the mug. Sounds difficult but it surprisingly easy.
There's also a chocolate store within the cafe with plenty of Max's own special treats to tempt you.
Hooked on Max? There are other stores at Broadbeach, Main Beach, Robina on the Gold Coast and at South Bank.
PS My spies tell me there's another one opening at Bulimba soon.
