Mt Glorious Restaurant & Cafe, Mt Glorious

On a glorious Brisbane winter day where else better to head than up to Mount Glorious, just a quick 40 minute motor bike ride from Brisbane.

Heading out from The Gap along Waterworks Road is it's a winding drive through the burbs roughly 30 km north west of Brisbane, via Jollys Lookout and Mt Nebo, to the mountain which is part of the D'Aguilar Rang. The drive up the mountain is peppered with lookouts and picnic spots.

Mt Glorious is surrounded by mountainous National Park and protected forests.I love driving through the mountain sides heavy with palm trees and jungle like forest, catching glimpses of the green countryside and lakes below.

At 680 metres above sea level the village is sometimes shrouded in cloudy mist and the cool mountain air makes it a particularly glorious place to visit during summer and enjoy a roaring fire on a cold winter's day but definitely not today!

We decided to head up for breakfast to Mount Glorious Restaurant and Cafe because it has a great view from the mountain back towards Brisbane.  Their menu has a local and free range emphasis and dishes are served with attractive embellishments from the garden like nasturtium flowers.

It was an eggy kinda day so I chose Glorious Eggs Benedict ($16.50)which came with smoked salmon and a great hollandaise sauce while K2 was happy with simple bacon and eggs  ($13.50). It's all real food with real flavours.

I enjoyed the food on my visit early last year too.

The specials board was packed full of other appealing dishes.

Lapping up the views from their wide deck was a very enjoyable way to spend a sunny winter morning.  When the weather is not so great there is also plenty of seating inside.

Bottom line: Combine the food with the view here and you've got a real winner.
Best tip: If you are planning ahead do book as the place can get busy.
