Which are Brisbane's best restaurants in 2013?

It's the holy grill (aka grail) according to the Irish accent of leading Brisbane chef Alastair McLeod, co presenter at the launch of the brisbane.times Good Food Guide last night.

And it must have been a grim Brisbane food scene outside the Lightspace launch venue with the room packed full of Brisbane's best and brightest, most savy and food concious chefs, restauranteurs, hospitality staff, food writers and food lovers.

We were all there for the launch of the second edition of the book that has become Brisbane's must have for finding good food throughout the state.

"If this book was on 'My Kitchen Rules' it would be called 'Come Back Kitchen' because it 'puts more bums on seats'," Alastair says and he is right.

Editor Natasha Mirosch, who has eaten her way around the state with the help of a very talented team of reviewers, says changes in the food scene have been reflected in the hats awarded.

"Some restaurants have taken their foot off the pedal and have lost a hat, but there have been gains as well from large from established places that have stepped up. There's youthful energy on the Gold Coast that is geat to see and the love affair with American food continues."

Natascha also noted a move from tapas to shared plates and more interstate operators opening in Brisbane.

Special guest Matt Golininki, who woke up this time last year after eight weeks in an induced coma following the tragic Christmas death of his wife and three gorgeous daughters, said thank you to his hospitality friends for their support.

Matt says Plates for Mates has generated a lot of money which he has passed on to help others but the support of the hospitality industry helped him through the some of the tough spots.

So who are the winners?
