Au Cirque opens for night dining in Brisbane's New Farm

If the breakfast queues are long and lunch is wildly popular too, it's not hard to guess that dinner will be great, right? Well you wouldn't be wrong at Au Cirque in New Farm's busy Brunswick Street, as the new night menu is a delight.

Granted, it's small, but certainly filled with beautiful flavours matched with a touch of difference that would inspire dedicated diners to return.

Owned by Giselle and Christophe Massieu, Au Cirque is for open breakfast and lunch seven days a week and now opens for dinner on Thursday and Friday nights.

There's a bites menu for small tastes, plus dinner and dessert options. Specials change each week according to what's on offer at the markets, so check their Facebook page each Wednesday to see the week's night menu.  Dishes generally stay for a week and rotate, although for all you fish pie lovers, it wasn't on the menu for my visit.

Instead, we enjoyed orange roughy bourguignon on paris mash surrounded by a rich sauce speckled with speck purchased from the butcher up the road who smokes his meats every Wednesday, and black angus sirloin steak with a cauliflower cheese souffle and jus gras. The steak was charred on outside and  perfectly pink on the inside.

We also shared a bistro bites starter of a salad of char-grilled figs, prosciutto, gorgonzola and fresh lime and shared a slice of amaretto and chocolate torte with vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Chocolate cake light, soft and crunchy all at the same time with a rich, full chocolate flavour.

Bottom line: Prices range from $22 to $28 for mains and desserts are around $12.

Best tip: Parking is available out the front except between 4 and 6 pm.
