THIS MARKET HAS CLOSED
Well, if you thought Brisbane had enough farmers markets think again. People flooded to the newly opened Red Hill Farmers Markets which turned a disused car park in the old Ithaca TAFE complex into a hive of humanity on Sunday.
Organised by Mark Power, who also runs the Carseldine, Nundah and Kuraby Markets, this market has an abundance of food to buy, produce including meat, seafood and vegetables, and a good selection of extras like clothing and jewellery.
Brisbane's Western Suburbs are now more than well serviced by markets.
I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to farmer's markets and I like to see real farmers selling their wares. That side of the Red Hill market is a little thin in my opinion, but it doesn't take away from the range of food on sale, and much of it is made locally.
There's Ithaca Creek Pantry who are selling honey from hives in their back yards which are located along Ithaca Creek.
At The Cheese Pleaser Super chef Javier Codina, owner of Moda Retaurant, is sharing a versatile romesco sauce made to his mother's recipe, olives with aromas and infused sea salt, and chutneys. There's also cheese boxes and grilled racelette cheese warmed and spread on sourdough - cheese on toast like you've never had before.
Market Larder was there with a breakfast offering that ticked all the boxes. Their Savoury French Toast Wraps are a definite sensation. I worked my way through a Notorious Pig.
At Market Larder, do say hello to @eatdrinkandbekerrybar Alexander Stone who is extremely knowledgeable in the kitchen as well as the bar.
If that wasn't enough to tempt you, Doughnut Time is there. Yes, doughnuts in a range of flavours that are very hard to resist.
The market is open every Sunday from 6am to 12 noon and is located in Fulcher Road opposite the Broncos playing fields. There are parking areas nearby but the popular market quickly maxed these out.
