Wake up to a new morning in Capri by Fraser in Brisbane's CBD and you'll discover there's plenty to like. From the front entrance it's clear that this hotel is rather an adventure. Award-winning design specialists, Ministry Of Design, have incorporated vertical garden walls and art installations which make the foyer seem more like a club. Best of all the wifi is fast and free, yes, free. On the ground floor is the new Pete Evans restaurant, Asana by Pete Evans which offers a mainly paelo menu. Don't worry about the paelo thing, the food is great. Thank goodness the days when a woman's worth as a marriage partner in Austria was judged by her ability to make strudel pastry without a hole are over or there would be lots of unmarried travel writers. How do I know this? Take a group of travel writers, a large lump of pastry and a rolling pin and it's not hard to work out who would be left on the shelf. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. With K2 I only have to mention the word 'lamb' and his eyes light up and crinkle around the edges. Food that tastes good but is also good for you is what you’ll find at Asana by Pete Evans. This is the first venture from well-known chef and paleo ambassador Pete Evans into Brisbane in his role as consultant chef and chief menu designer for a Capri by Fraser in Albert Street, Brisbane. The restaurant is every bit as bright and shiny as Pete Evan’s smile and has a mix of comfortable bench seating and not-so-comfortable bright yellow metal chairs. It pays to be a street walker in Fortitude Valley

Brisbane's Fortitude Valley is an area known for its range of restaurants, bars and cafes, vibrant entertainment and edgy fashion, but you don't have to look hard to discover another creative side of Valley life. The days are long gone when street art was considered graffiti. Now a wide variety of art forms brighten up unused spaces making social comment or just something that pleases the eye. Wandering the Valley in search of new food, I found lots to admire. Here are my favourites starting with the man and the street sign in Wynn Lane, which has also become popular for photos. The unhappiest hippie town in Australia

It's the sort of place you must visit said our hosts - its the unhappiest hippie town in Australia. We were leaving our overnight accommodation at Silk Pavilions at Mount Burrell located almost in the shadow of Mount Warning in the Tweed Valley for the second day of our New Year's Eve motor bike ride. Yes, my alter ego is a bad-arsed biker pillion passenger on K2's BMW K120GT. We headed off for a coffee at Nimbin with our American friends and fellow bikers, John and Nancy, through the wildly scenic valley, almost iridescent in its greenness, past fields packed with cows and their calves, mares and foals and the odd goat. Surprisingly for New Years Day when most country towns are still asleep, Nimbin was buzzing with locals and visitors in the main street. Some of the inhabitants were worse for wear including a spaced out woman who asked us "Are you smokin' today?", offering three different illegal substances in less than 10 minutes. We settle...

I love the drama of the old Regent Theatre. It should be a Brisbane icon and how developers have got their hands on it over heritage I really don't understand. I thought we had laws to protect our important stuff. Obviously not. Don't let the Regent become a 'foyer to nowhere'! Line up for the Regent this Saturday, May 29, from 11 - 12 at Reddacliffe Place (it's the bridge end of Queen Street). Show the government and the council that the Regent must stay as an entertainment venue, open and able to be properly used by the people of Brisbane. Check out the Facebook group page . Which are the best restaurants in Brisbane? Well here are the top picks from the 2009 Restaurant & Catering Queensland HOSTPLUS Brisbane Awards for Excellence which were presented last night. Much loved E'cco Bistro was awarded the supreme award ‘Restaurant of the Year’ and 'Best Contemporary Australian Restaurant'. Book your room and pack your bags, Noosa has got a show lined up for you that you won't want to miss! The Audi Noosa Food and Wine Festival from April 30 to May 2 has a stellar line up with lunches, masterclasses and food trails. According to Jim Berardo who started the festival seven years ago there will be plenty of famous faces in singlets and shorts walking the streets of Noosa. Jim says this is a festival that promotes the producers as much as the food and chefs and looking at the line up of ingredients I can only agree. What am I looking forward to?
