New Farm Deli, New Farm

There's no escaping that New Farm Deli is well loved.

Walk inside and the atmosphere is buzzing busy with well organised queues and blackboard menu that includes something for just about everyone.

It's 25 year history has built up an established clientele who love the continental delights it holds.  Browsing the shelves I found more than a few items I would like to take home.

The cafe section has expanded well beyond it's four walls to take up the 'footpath' outside the shop and even to a small area around a stair well in the car park.  Even though our table was located well away from the deli interior, service was relatively quick and efficient with only a minor coffee order mix up marring the day.

Our choices included savoury mince - a slightly spicy, rich tomato mince sauce which came with a poached egg - and a turkey special with smoked turkey, avocado, cheese, cranberry sauce and lettuce for $8 - good value. Also on the list were roast vegetable lasagna and veal scalloppina which were both pronounced excellent by those who chose them.

The chippies, and I am something of an expert on good chippies, were twice cooked and nicely crisp without being too crunchy.

The food was well priced, plentiful, well presented and full of flavour.  A great spot for an informal lunch, coffee catchup or simple meal.  Next time I'd avoid sitting in the car park area around the stairwell - it just felt a little second best.

Bottom line: Well loved for a reason, this is no frills but comfortable cafe-style Italian influenced dining.
