Ace breakfast at Kings, new at Tennyson

I would describe it as ace but that would be too twee, so instead I'll call Kings a hidden gem.

Hidden because unless you are a tennis fan or live in the Tennyson Reach Development you'd probably never know this cafe existed.

It's called Kings and takes it's name from King Arthur Terrace where it is located but you have to drive down into the Australian Tennis Centre to find it following an unlikely looking road that actually takes you to quite a big complex. There's the tennis centre and a largish apartment complex times three. Looks like a nice place to live.

Located in the base of the first apartment building is Kings, a hip little cafe showcasing some interesting architectural design features.

We ordered breakfast (available until 11.30am) - a Mushroom and spinach omelette, sour dough toast ($13) and a Build your own breakfast – eggs to your liking, tomato, sour dough toast ($12 + extras). The sour dough bread that accompanied both meals was a standout.

The breakfast menu covers all the usuals but for my money could use a little more innovation. Still you are sure to find something you like.

Kings operator Michael Petts is tipping Kings as Tennyson’s new dining ‘hot spot’ and he could be right.  Though from what I can see around Tennyson the competition is not stiff.

After brekkie we took a stroll down to the river and peered through the mangroves. This was a dull, drizzly day so the view was not so spectacular but I could imagine it would be on a fine, sunny day.

Check out King's Sundowner Evenings that feature a bar snacks and tapas style menu through to 8.30pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Kings Cafe is open from 6am to 3pm Monday to Thursday and from 2.30pm to 8.30pm on Friday and Saturday.
Bottom line: great brekkie spot with a view away from the crowds but do make sure the tennis isn't on.
