Ever since I was a small child I've loved Brisbane's annual show, the Ekka, and it's an event I don't like to miss.
Not the rides, especially not the rides (My excitement tops at the ferris wheel) but I love looking at the cakes, the cats and dogs, animals of all sorts and making sure I have my traditional Ekka foods.
This does NOT include a dagwood dog but DOES include a strawberry sundae.
This year it's on from Friday August 5 to Sunday August 14.

Here's a few of my favourites and where you'll find them to help you plan your food assault!
1. Strawberry Sundae
Real strawberries with gourmet strawberry ice cream - an unbeatable combo. This year the Ekka Strawberry Sundae celebrates 29 years of partnership with the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation. 20,000 tonnes of strawberry and vanilla ice-cream will be supplied by Brisbane based gourmet ice- creamery Lick. There are stalls dotted around the show.
2. Gourmet Plaza
Flavours from all over the globe will fill this plaza area between the Royal ICC building and the main ring. Head here for dumplings, butter chicken, burritos, pizza and more. There will also be $5 tasting plates of the award winning beef and lamb - that's something worth lining up for!

3. Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion
This is where all the cooking demonstration action happens with local and regional chefs cooking up their favourite dishes. Even the Queensland Country Women's Association will be sharing some of their cooking secrets.
Golden Grove Estate, Ballandedean Estate, Bunnamagoo Wines, Sumite Estate Wines and Riversands Wines are just some of the Queensland wineries showing their wares here.
You can also have 'Dinner with Dom' at the RQFWS Cooking Stage for $30 a ticket. Dom will cook you a meal and you get to sit down and enjoy the shared plate dishes.
The pavilion fronts on to Gregory Terrace on the corner of Costin Street.
4. Pepperjack Bar and Mumm Champagne Lounge
Located in the upper level of the Royal International Convention Centre, these are great spots to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine or champagne and get away from the crowds for a while.

5. Royal Queensland Steakhouse
Find this one on the top level of the Royal International Convention Centre. This is where they are serving Australia’s best steaks, wines and cheeses, sourced directly from the RNA’s prestigious Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show the Ekka’s fine dining restaurant.
Start with Mooloolaba King Prawns or the Beef Carpaccio with truffle oil. For the main you can’t go past the gold medal winning Grass fed beef or award-winning Wagyu served with
a shiraz jus and chargrilled tomatoes and for dessert the vanilla bean cheese cake served with salted caramel ice-cream is sure to impress. Last year the restaurant served 3,000 award-winning steaks to Ekka guests.
Visit the Ekka to browse the full program. You'll find all the action in Gregory Terrace at Bowen Hills.
