Guzman Y Gomez, Emporium, Fortitude Valley

Authentic Mexican food is what Guzman y Gomez Mexican Taquería (GYG), a new fast food restaurant in the spot formerly occupied by Depot in Emporium, promises.

The concept is a little wasted on me as I've never ventured south of the border into Mexico, however the food certainly wasn't wasted - instead it was gobbled up by our hungry group.

Once you get your head around what this restaurant offers, it's easy to make your choices.  The menu  options include cut beef, pork, chicken and  fish plus black beans, rice and fresh vegetables.  You can then combine your choice of fillings in burritos, tacos or quesadillas or just have them on their own, without a wrapping.

GYG make the Pico de Gallo salsa and guacamole fresh daily in store using local produce and proudly talk about the healthy quality of the food.

They claim their meal options are the perfect balance of protein, carbohydrates and fibre – low in fat, low GI ingredients, low sugar, gluten free tortillas and lactose free.
I was more interested in their famed frozen margaritas and selection of Mexican imported beers than the nutritional status - naughty Kerry!

We enjoyed our selection of food. K2 ordered a burrito and a taco which was a very filling meal.  I started off with two quesadillas and went back for another one while V Diddy did the same with tacos. Expect to pay around $10 per person for a filling meal and another $8 if you want to sample a frozen margarita - recommended.

It's more civilised than some other fast food places as the waitress brings your order to the table, but it's pretty casual dining.  Takeaway is another good option and you can preorder on line.

Bottom line: I'll be going back when a quick, filling meal is high on list. Parking is reasonable around Emporium as well, though you may have to stalk.
